SINUS MUCOCELE CAUSING BLINDNESS / OPTIC NERVE DECOMPRESSION

69 year old lady presented with history of gradually diminishing vision in left eye for one month.

Visual examination revealed only Hand Movement + in left eye with visual field defect. CT scan PNS and MRI Brain revealed “a large lobulated mass 2.8*2.6 cm in left posterior ethmoid sinuses extending into the left sphenoid sinus with widening of spheno ethmoidal recess with mass effect on medial orbital wall and optic nerve.”

 

Patient referred to us by Opthalmologist for futher management.

Patient underwent Endoscopic Transnasal Removal of the mucocele along with Optic nerve decompression and CSF leak repair under GA.

Patient improved immediately after surgery with left eye vision improving to Finger Counting at 2m within 5 days and no post op complications. Patient will remain under regular followup.
